Do we do the best that we can?

I could be wrong but as I look out across our country and the world, I don't see as much of the 'doing the best that I can' . . . and I do see too much of the 'doing what I want'.
Is this what we are embracing more and more of (the 'me' mentality)?

I really appreciate history and these words from Epictetus are ones that we need everyone to understand and to apply correctly.
“First say to yourself what you would be; and then do what you have to do.”
For the fool, those words could be enough [for them] to reinforce their belief that the dumb stuff they are doing – is good to do. But for those of us, who are doing what we can to be on the path of honor – it has us thinking . . . 'Are my words and actions as I want them to be, and if not, what needs to change and when?'
This is what heroes embrace. So, are you doing your part and along the way, are you helping your kids to understand and to do this as well (as best they can)?
