We all have the various ups & downs that unfold in the days of our lives. What we find as that journey is unfolding, is that somethings matter and somethings don't.

As for some examples . . . yes we quickly see how our family & friends, our health,
and our happiness do matter.
We also see – although a bit sad, that our possessions don't mean that much when
a tornado, fire, hurricane or a flood rolls through and everything we have is destroyed, but those we care for are okay. And then, the more difficult to see become more and more apparent. Those being the aspects of ours and other's character that is so appreciated. Which are: integrity, compassion, patience, courage, humbleness, honor, etc.
Yes, we appreciate these components of character more and more as we get older, because we find those without these, need to be less and less a part of our lives. So yes, character is a part of how to win at life.
