Today [early June of 2020], we have a major challenge . . .

as to what is the purpose of our police departments and of we as citizens?
It would be good to revisit the word purpose. The dictionary states: [purpose] the reason for which something is done or created or for which something exists.
So let us start with a look at our police units across our various cities. We want them to help ensure law & order and in doing so – to keep us and them safe (over simplified). Which then raises the question . . . why and where are things breaking down?
Although there could be numerous factors - it appears the main problem is racist targeting and over zealous actions taken by law enforcement officers against minorities. Now is this really happening? It appears so and that raises the question, why? Is it because this is a career path for those that want to 'legally' continue their racist views, or is it some type of re-enforced macho ”I'm better then you” mindset?
We need to figure this out because we have at least a small percent of bad cops that need to be removed. Add to that a probably larger percent of bad people are making things worse and you can see why we have a problem. As to the what should we do ??? It comes back to first – stay in your lane, that means all of us need to be honorable, to be accountable and responsible for everything we think, say and do.
And yes I know it is not that easy – at least stating as such. In reality everything we have unfolding challenges us to step up and to do better. For those that understand and pursue this, thank you. For those flopp'n around and needing to step up – please make some time to review how you are doing in life and if changes are needed. Our police departments are under huge scrutiny so I hope they make the adjustments needed. And last of all, we all need to realize that we can not expect our police departments to achieve perfection when none of us are near that point as well. We all though can work to pursue excellence in how we treat others. Please think on this and remember these words from Ephesians 2:10 as shown above.
And there is our challenge. We are called to pursue good works and that means being helpful, compassionate and respectful. If we all did at least these three things – just think how much better the world would be. And what is so sad, those three things are not that hard to do. We need everyone to understand and to grasp these.
